    The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon Composer Ryo Nagamatsu Leaves Nintendo

    Renowned composer seeks work in the broad gaming industry.

    The Legend of Zelda series and Splatoon series composer Ryo Nagamatsu announced his departure from Nintendo as of April 30, 2023. After the amicable departure from Nintendo, Nagamatsu promised to serve fans by helping others in the gaming industry. 

    An Amicable Departure from Nintendo

    Ryo Nagamatsu shared the news of his departure via his official Twitter account, and fans were quick to share their well wishes and continued support. Nagamatsu states that he will broaden his work in the gaming industry and work directly with those who may benefit greatly from his help. Further, the renowned composer thanks fans for their continued support as he looks forward to entertaining fans once more in the future. 

    “I have made a decision to leave the company of April 30, 2023,” composer Ryo Nagamatsu said on Twitter, citing an amicable settlement. “I will work a little wider and more directly to help those who need my help and to help the industry. Thank you all for your kind support! I look forward to serve you in the future!”

    Nagamatsu is credited for his work on several Nintendo titles including Nintendo Land, Wii Sports Resort, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake to name a few. Additionally, he contributed greatly for the soundtracks of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3. There should be no shortage of work for Nagamatsu with such a resume.

    This May, Nintendo’s next major release comes in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch. The upcoming game is the long awaited sequel to the fan-favorite Nintendo Switch launch game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Before launch, players may purchase a limited edition Nintendo Switch OLED model with designs from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

    Lastly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches on May 12 for Nintendo Switch.
