Bandai Namco Entertainment announced the upcoming SAND LAND movie premieres on August 18, 2023, bringing another one of Akira Toriyama’s legendary manga to the forefront. Nearly 23 years after its serialization, Sand Land returns in different forms of content.
New Visuals and a Release Date
The news was released on World Water Day since water is an important aspect of the SAND LAND world and story. Alongside the release date announcement, Bandai Namco updated its official SAND LAND website with visuals of Beelzebub, Thief, and Rao. More details and visuals will be revealed at a later date.
Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga, and ANIMA are working together with Bandai Namco Entertainment to produce the new SAND LAND movie. The movie was originally unveiled as part of a SAND LAND project. Bandai Namco is interested in turning SAND LAND into a “full IP,” so more SAND LAND content may be on the way.
In SAND LAND, Beelzebub is a young demon and the son of a king that controls a desert world’s supply of water. Sheriff Rao asked for help from the king to obtain water, but the help he receives is through Beelzebub and his assistant, Thief. The upcoming movie will adapt the story of SAND LAND for public viewing at theaters across Japan.

Fans of Akira Toriyama’s work may also look forward to a new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game, which is currently in development at Bandai Namco. The rumored codename for the new Budokai Tenkaichi project is Dragon Ball: SPARKING! ZERO!. Platforms and a release date for the new game have not been revealed yet.
Lastly, SAND LAND premieres August 18 in Japan, and an international release date has not been announced.
