If you’re a One Piece fan, chances are you are pretty excited for One Piece Odyssey. You might be thinking to yourself “when exactly does One Piece Odyssey take place?”, especially considering it hasn’t been clear in the trailers.
One Piece Odyssey – When Does It Take Place?
One Piece Odyssey takes place on the island of Waford and is an all-new original story. It seems to “take place” after Dressrosa, with that being the last arc covered in the World of Memories. This would put Odyssey around the Zou arc on the manga’s timeline. You’ll be able to relive some of the most prominent arcs in One Piece through this, however, it won’t be “canon” per se. The games are self-contained mostly and act as yet another outlet to experience adventures with the Straw Hat pirates.
The main reason for the newer arcs, Whole Cake Island and Wano, being discluded is most likely related to the development time. The development for Odyssey began even before One Piece World Seeker was released, which puts it back at least five years at the minimum. Whole Cake Island was not finished at this time, and Wano had not even started.
