*Update – 9/14* Nintendo confirmed via Axios writer Stephen Totilo that price cuts are not coming to the standard Switch in the west:
“The trade price adjustment is for the European region only. There are no plans to change the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for any Nintendo Switch model in the U.S.”
*Original Article* Nintendo confirmed via VGC that a price cut is in effect for the standard Switch model in Europe! The console costs €269.99 (originally €329.99) in Europe and £259.99 (originally £279.99) in the UK according to VGC. However, these prices could drop even further since Nintendo did not set a RRP (recommended retail price) in the region. Here’s what Nintendo had to say:
“Nintendo of Europe is changing the European trade price of the Nintendo Switch console to retailers.
More than four and a half years after its first release, Nintendo Switch continues to have strong sales momentum in Europe. After carefully weighing up a variety of factors, including currency exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, we decided that now was the appropriate time to change the European trade price of Nintendo Switch.
The trade prices of Nintendo Switch Lite and the upcoming Nintendo Switch – OLED Model are not affected. The final price to consumers is determined by retailers. As a guide, we recommend that consumers check with local retailers to find out their prices.
We made the price change before the launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model so that the price differences between each model in Nintendo’s own retail channel, My Nintendo Store, would be what Nintendo judges to be appropriate for its own store.”
A price cut in North America and other regions such as Japan have not been confirmed at this time. Hopefully, a price cut comes to all regions before the Switch OLED releases worldwide. The Switch OLED releases on October 8th alongside Metroid Dread. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and updates!
