Rumor: New Switch hardware set to release in early 2021 according to manufacturing sources out of Taipei

Rumors and information of new Switch hardware have been circulating for the past year including referenced code in the Switch’s version 10.0.0 firmware. This time, Taipei based publication Economy Daily News states that new Switch hardware is entering production later this year with a planned release window of early 2021. According to the publication, they’ve provided this information from manufacturing sources in Taipei. This follows up on reports from the Wall Street Journal and DigiTimes claiming that new Switch hardware was in the planning stages. The new Switch would include:

    • Improved display quality
    • Improved “interactivity”

*Update* Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki also chimes in with reports of a new Switch model in 2021. According to Mochizuki, Nintendo considered improved processing power and 4K support. Nintendo is also focused on the 2021 lineup and more titles for 2020 will be announced soon. More details are available here.

As a reminder, its important to take rumors such as this with a grain of salt. Nintendo themselves said that no new Switch hardware would launch in 2020. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and updates!
