34 years ago, Atlus was founded on April 7th in Japan

Today marks the 34th anniversary of Atlus! The company was originally founded as a video game developer working on licensed games for publishers. However, the company would eventually go on create games under Bandai Namco in the late 80’s. The Megami Tensei series would be born and later become Shin Megami Tensei. This was first breakout game and series from Atlus, starting with the SNES.

Fast forward to the 21st century, Shin Megami Tensei would gather a cult following in the west with its spin-off, Persona, becoming its own mainline franchise. Dozens of Atlus games would grace Nintendo and PlayStation platforms in recent years like Shin Megami Tensei IV, Persona 5 and Catherine: Full Body.

Currently, Atlus is owned by SEGA but acts similarly to an independent entity. We at Final Weapon can’t wait to see what projects they have lined up for fans next. Fans are currently enjoying Persona 5 Royal and eagerly anticipating Shin Megami Tensei V. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news!
