Although he grew up without knowing his true parents, he was charmed by the manly spirit of Masumi Arakawa, who he met at age 15, and joined the Arakawa Family. Astral Chain Famitsu Interview: plans started before development on NieR: Automata, medieval fantasy concept and more!

Astral Chain

Famitsu published an interview this week with Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura, supervisor Hideki Kamiya and producer Eijiro Nishimura. Many interesting tidbits were in this interview, including first concepts for Astral Chain and the development phase.

Astral Chain was in the planning phase before development on NieR: Automata started. That puts Astral Chain in the 5 year range as a project. Nintendo contacted Platinum Games at the time to make a high difficulty game. Astral Chain was first imagined as a medieval fantasy game but Nintendo wanted a better hook as a new IP. Instead of twins in the final product, the game originally centered around triplets. Hideki Kamiya states that he might have came up with the twins concept but doesn’t quite remember.

In the original plans, Astral Chain would have had monsters that could be captured. However, Nintendo suggested to change this in order to focus on core gameplay and action. Among some of the most interesting tidbits in the article, Taura states it’s Platinum’s destiny to show off a good butt in their games. Taura is no stranger to this considering he’s worked on NieR: Automata. Kamiya is impressed with Taura’s directional duties.

Lastly, there’s a lot of post-game content after the main story. Astral Chain releases exclusively for Nintendo Switch on August 30th. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for more news regarding Nintendo Switch titles like Astral Chain!

Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace rated in Australia

A rating for Steins;Gate My Darling’s Embrace was completed in Australia! The publisher for this rating is Spike Chunsoft and developer is MAGES. An English rating means that the game will most likely follow up with a release in the west. Steins;Gate My Darling’s Embrace is the English title of Steins;Gate Hiyoku Renri no Darling, originally released on the Xbox 360 in 2011. Here’s an overview of the game:

After repeated D-mail experiments, Okarin jumps to a world where a three percent shift in world line was to be expected. And before he knew it, Kurisu as well as the rest of the members have been gathered and amidst preparations for a banquet.

In this world, a new gadget had been created but the group is facing some troubles. They can’t afford to pay the electricity bill due to running too many experiments. Let’s see what this new gadget can do for us…

The concept for this game is a love comedy with some sweet romance scenes and where 99 percent of the world is science but one percent is composed of… fantasies?!

The game never received an English localization and was ported to PSP, PS3, PS Vita and iOS in the following years after its first release. The Steins;Gate Divergencies Assort collection for Switch also included this title. With this in mind, its very possible that one of the target platforms for My Darling’s Embrace will be Switch. Its important to note that platforms for this title are currently unknown.

Stay tuned at Final Weapon for more news regarding Steins;Gate titles in the future!

Rod Fergusson teases open world in Gears 5

We haven’t received much information regarding the campaign of Gears 5. In fact, we’ve only really received the odd quote from developers and a trailer or two. As such, players have been itching for more information regarding the campaign, which The Coalition appears to be supporting.

Rod Fergusson (head of The Coalition) recently made a tweet regarding ultrawide support for Gears 5. This alone is great news, as it allows ultrawide screen players to get in on the action. What you might not have noticed though, is that there’s a compass on the top right of the monitor. This usually means that players will be able to roam freely in that environment, and hints at a potential open-world segment in Gears 5. Twitter user xFribbo was quick to notice and replied to the tweet asking about it, in which Fergusson responded with “Interesting…”.

This almost certainly is implying that a section of the Gears 5 campaign is open world, and is huge news for Gears. None of the previous entries in the series had open-world portions, and were almost exclusively linear levels. This wasn’t a bad thing, but it’s nice to see The Coalition try to spice things up a bit. We’ll find out more information regarding the open world once the game releases.

Gears 5 will release on PC and Xbox One on September 6th. Stay tuned at Final Weapon as we cover more news regarding current and future Gears titles.
