We haven’t received much information regarding the campaign of Gears 5. In fact, we’ve only really received the odd quote from developers and a trailer or two. As such, players have been itching for more information regarding the campaign, which The Coalition appears to be supporting.
Whatcha doing? Oh you know, just driving the #Gears5 Skiff in ultra wide resolution. Just a quick photo while @blainh isn’t watching my every move. #shhhh #donttellBlain pic.twitter.com/o1M7H3VUkK

Rod Fergusson (head of The Coalition) recently made a tweet regarding ultrawide support for Gears 5. This alone is great news, as it allows ultrawide screen players to get in on the action. What you might not have noticed though, is that there’s a compass on the top right of the monitor. This usually means that players will be able to roam freely in that environment, and hints at a potential open-world segment in Gears 5. Twitter user xFribbo was quick to notice and replied to the tweet asking about it, in which Fergusson responded with “Interesting…”.
This almost certainly is implying that a section of the Gears 5 campaign is open world, and is huge news for Gears. None of the previous entries in the series had open-world portions, and were almost exclusively linear levels. This wasn’t a bad thing, but it’s nice to see The Coalition try to spice things up a bit. We’ll find out more information regarding the open world once the game releases.
Gears 5 will release on PC and Xbox One on September 6th. Stay tuned at Final Weapon as we cover more news regarding current and future Gears titles.
