Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild turns 3 years old today

Its been 3 years since the official launch of the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a monumental moment in gaming and a shift in the industry. The Switch appeals to multiple audiences due to its large library of games and handheld/home console hybrid nature. In the process, it revitalized Nintendo with a growing new audience after the Wii U debacle.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild reinvented the series while keeping many of its elements true to the original. This game went on to become a massive system seller and drove the Switch through a strong first year in the market. It’s a major factor in why so many games from both western and Japanese developers are making its way to the platform. Breath of the Wild sold the idea of the Switch to millions of fans.
