The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – How to Get Chillrend in The Killing Field Quest

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered Chillrend Guide

Chillrend is a great one-handed shortsword that’s quite powerful early on in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. In order to get this sword, you must meet specific criteria during the side quest called The Killing Field, which can be obtained by heading to Chorrol, which is located northwest of the Imperial City. In this guide, you will learn how to get Chillrend in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Note: If you plan to use Chillrend for a powerful build, accept the quest when you’re close to level 20.

Firstly, you can head to The Grey Mane or head to Valus Odill’s home in Chorrol. If you’ve already been in town and asked about any rumors, then you will likely know that Odill’s sons are preparing to clear out the family’s farm of monsters. Speak to Valus and he will ask you to back up his sons before they get themselves killed, as he can’t fight with them due to his old age. A quest marker will be placed outside of Weynon Priory.

How to Complete The Killing Field Quest and Get Chillrend in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

After speaking with Valus, I recommend equipping fire or shock magic spells, since they’re effective on Goblins, the enemies you will be facing at Odill’s farm. A Goblin Shaman Staff is also quite effective. The type and level of Goblins will depend on your own

In order to get Chillrend, you must meet with Antus and Rallus Odill outside of Weynon Priory and make sure they both survive. After speaking with them and walking to Odill’s farm, they will prepare themselves for a fight against three waves of Goblins. With spells and your strongest weapons in hand, you can charge toward the wave to get the Goblins’ attention. Quickly defeat them with spells and strikes, and repeat the process for the next two waves. If successful, they will both cheer on their victory and head back home.

With the Goblins defeated, head back to Valus in Chorrol to tell him the good news. He will be very happy, and you will receive Chillrend as a reward. Chillrend offers Frost Damage and Weakness to Frost bonuses upon hit on an enemy, and the exact bonus is based on the level you acquire it.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – How to Complete Canvas the Castle Quest

The “Canvas the Castle” quest will likely be one of the first side quests you encounter in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, since it’s located in the town of Chorrol near Weynon Priory. In the quest, you will be tasked by Countess Arianna Valga of Chorrol Castle to investigate the mystery of her stolen heirloom—a painting of the late count. In this guide, you’ll learn how to solve the mystery of the Canvas the Castle quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, along with the rewards you can get.

Firstly, players can speak with Countess Valga by heading to Chorrol and going to Chorrol Castle’s Grand Hall. If you visit during the day, she will be sitting on her throne, so she’s hard to miss. When you speak to her, she will talk about an investigation that is ongoing, and she will divulge details about it if her Disposition is positive enough. You can quickly raise her Disposition by bribing her. Once ready, you can accept the Canvas the Castle quest by talking to her about the investigation again, and you will be given a key to investigate the castle’s private quarters.

How to Complete Canvas the Castle Quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

While speaking with Valga, she will reveal a list of suspects and ask you to speak with them and try to find physical clues around Chorrol Castle. The suspects are castle herald Laythe Wavrick, court mage Chanel, steward Orok gro-Goth, castle porter Orgnolf, and Chorrol guard captain Bittneld. You can accuse any of these characters for stealing Valga’s painting, but doing so without proof will lower their Disposition, making it harder to get information from them.

Instead, you should raise their Disposition with Persuasion mini-game or bribe them to receive the clues you need. When this is done with all five characters, Orgnolf and Chanel will be the prime suspects to focus on. From here, you will need to find three clues in Castle Chorrol.

    Clues You Need to Find

The first clue is an unusual painting in Castle Chorrol’s West Tower. You can reach this painting by opening the trap door in the West Tower behind some crates.

Next, you can head to Chanel’s room for the second clue. Chanel’s lecturn will have painting supplies inside, making her the primary suspect.

The third and final clue can be found in Castle Chorrol’s dining hall. Examine the paint stained carpet and then accuse Chanel.

Chanel will confess to the crime and reveal that she stole the painting due to her own love for Count Valga. Then, you will have the choice of getting one of two endings: report Chanel to Countess Valga or lie to Valga about the culprit

    Quest Endings

Ending 1: Reporting Chanel to Countess Valga will result in Chanel being exiled from Chorrol, and you will receive 200 Gold and two Flawed Topaz for a job well done.

Ending 2: If you decide to lie about not finding a culprit in the castle, Valga will instead give you 50 Gold for making an effort. However, Chanel will be happy with you for sparing her, and she will tell you to come back to her in three weeks to receive a portrait of your character. The painting can be used as a decoration in your home once you have one to settle in.

With that, the Canvas the Castle quest is complete, and your adventure in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered continues.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
