Chillrend is a great one-handed shortsword that’s quite powerful early on in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. In order to get this sword, you must meet specific criteria during the side quest called The Killing Field, which can be obtained by heading to Chorrol, which is located northwest of the Imperial City. In this guide, you will learn how to get Chillrend in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Note: If you plan to use Chillrend for a powerful build, accept the quest when you’re close to level 20.

Firstly, you can head to The Grey Mane or head to Valus Odill’s home in Chorrol. If you’ve already been in town and asked about any rumors, then you will likely know that Odill’s sons are preparing to clear out the family’s farm of monsters. Speak to Valus and he will ask you to back up his sons before they get themselves killed, as he can’t fight with them due to his old age. A quest marker will be placed outside of Weynon Priory.

After speaking with Valus, I recommend equipping fire or shock magic spells, since they’re effective on Goblins, the enemies you will be facing at Odill’s farm. A Goblin Shaman Staff is also quite effective. The type and level of Goblins will depend on your own

In order to get Chillrend, you must meet with Antus and Rallus Odill outside of Weynon Priory and make sure they both survive. After speaking with them and walking to Odill’s farm, they will prepare themselves for a fight against three waves of Goblins. With spells and your strongest weapons in hand, you can charge toward the wave to get the Goblins’ attention. Quickly defeat them with spells and strikes, and repeat the process for the next two waves. If successful, they will both cheer on their victory and head back home.

With the Goblins defeated, head back to Valus in Chorrol to tell him the good news. He will be very happy, and you will receive Chillrend as a reward. Chillrend offers Frost Damage and Weakness to Frost bonuses upon hit on an enemy, and the exact bonus is based on the level you acquire it.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
