Warner Bros. recently announced that the sequel to A Minecraft Movie, titled A Minecraft Movie Squared, will release on July 23, 2027. Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) will return to direct the sequel. It will once again star Jack Black as Steve and Jason Momoa as Garrett, alongside new additions such as Kirsten Dunst as Alex and Matt Berry in a currently undisclosed role.
A Minecraft Movie initially released in theaters on April 4, 2025. While critics rated the film a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, casual audiences have been more positive about the movie. This is due to its meme status which led to it being re-released in theaters a month later through the “Block Party Edition.” The Block Party Edition featured sing-a-long and “meme-a-long” subtitles, inviting watchers to take part in the film’s absurd humor. A Minecraft Movie is available to watch now on HBO Max.
