During Tokyo Game Show 2026, Hideo Kojima revealed that Bill Skarsgård will play the main protagonist of PHYSINT. The announcement comes barely a week after Xbox took over publishing for the upcoming tactical espionage title.
Skarsgård is most well known for his roles as Pennywise in the IT franchise, Count Orlok in Nosferatu, and the Marquis de Gramont in John Wick: Chapter 4. He joins Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Ma Dong-seok/Don Lee (Train to Busan, The Roundup), Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One). In a new behind-the-scenes video, where Kojima also confirmed that progress is going well on OD, he further outlined the choice. “We are both long-time fans of each other’s work,” he states, “And we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”
Kojima also released a new teaser visual for the upcoming game. It features logos pertaining to Epic Games and Unreal Engine, implying that the new game will use Unreal Engine 5 instead of PlayStation’s DECIMA Engine. Recently, PlayStation announced that the company is stepping away from collaborating with Kojima Productions on its development of upcoming title PHYSINT. Shortly after its announcement, XBOX has confirmed that it is expanding its partnership with Kojima Productions in a publishing agreement for PHYSINT, which already included the upcoming OD game. According to Hideo Kojima, Kojima Productions received a notice in mid-June 2026 from PlayStation that they would cancel PHYSINT. Since then, Kojima searched for a new partner to keep the project alive, which would turn out to be XBOX.
