The Crunchyroll Store has updated, revealing that physical manga and light novels are no longer available to purchase on the storefront. This comes after it announced that the store would only be available for Mega ($13.99/mo) and Ultimate ($17.99/mo) Fans only.
Alongside the removal of manga and light novels, other physical books for Korean manhwa and Chinese danmei titles are also no longer listed for sale. Crunchyroll recently announced that it plans to transition the Crunchyroll Store into a store that “captures the excitement of convention-exclusive merchandise—collectibles, curated drops, and limited-release products inspired by the anime series you love.” The change means that standard users (Fans, $9.99/mo) will no longer have access to the Crunchyroll Store. Crunchyroll states that while your account order and history will remain accessible, you will not be able to place any new orders unless you are part of the Mega or Ultimate tier.
In a FAQ posted online, Crunchyroll states that the store will focus on “curated drops, and Crunchyroll‑exclusive merch you won’t find anywhere else”, which leaves the future of the Crunchyroll Store’s role in selling physical media unclear. Previously, Crunchyroll acquired RigthStuf Anime, a storefront focused on selling Blu-rays, manga, and light novels. This was later merged into the Crunchyroll Store. Over time, we’ve seen a vast number of Blu-rays and manga sets delisted from the store, leaving things quite bare, aside from the biggest anime series.
We likely will not know what physical media Crunchyroll plans to sell until the store is live. The launch date of the new Crunchyroll Store has yet to be announced. This comes at an interesting time for Crunchyroll owner Sony, which recently announced it plans to stop producing physical PlayStation games starting in January 2028.
