Nintendo of Europe has announced that the original Nintendo Switch will be discontinued in the region starting in March 2027. The changes are due to new regulations that will go into effect in the region in February 2027.
In a statement, Nintendo Europe outlined the changes: “Starting summer 2026, in preparation for upcoming changes in European battery regulations coming into effect in mid-February 2027, selected Nintendo products in Europe will begin to be replaced on a rolling basis by revisions that contain a user-replaceable battery. There is no difference in functionality between current products and revised products containing user-replaceable batteries.”
The “revised products” will be available starting in summer 2026, with more releasing throughout autumn 2026, winter 2026, and early 2027. In addition, the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED, and Nintendo Switch Lite will no longer be sold. Considering the changes in battery regulations directly influencing these changes, it is unlikely that the original Switch will be discontinued in other regions. However, it is possible that Nintendo may make such a decision at a later date.
