The Crunchyroll Showcase panel at Anime Expo 2026 has revealed new details about The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All, the anime series based on the manga by Sumiko Arai. The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All will premiere in January 2027, and a new teaser trailer revealed the staff and cast members.

The anime will be directed by Masashi Ishihama and features Rino Yamasaki on series composition and Kanna Hirayama on character designs. The opening theme will be ‘Breed’ by Nirvana. Mariya Ise and Akari Kito will voice Mitsuki Koga and Aya Osawa respectively, reprising their roles from a drama CD adaptation. CloverWorks will develop the series, and it will stream on Crunchyroll.

After hearing Mitsuki’s song, an excited Aya encourages her to share it with the world! Mitsuki is more than a little hesitant to put herself out there, but with Aya’s support and inspiration from a music festival they attend together, she begins to pursue her passion in earnest. When a certain video of her singing goes viral, though, Mitsuki ends up becoming somewhat of a celebrity at school…and her newfound fame brings difficulties for both her and Aya. What trials await the pair in their final year of high school?
