Nintendo has announced that The Legend of Zelda film will now release on April 30, 2027, instead of its previous release date of May 7. It’s now releasing one week earlier after it was previously delayed from March 26 to May 7.

In a post, Shigeru Miyamoto himself said the following: “This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There’s less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.” Considering the film recently wrapped filming and its new release date, it’s likely that more news about the cast, story, and perhaps a first look at footage for The Legend of Zelda movie will surface soon.

The movie will star Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Previously, Shigeru Miyamoto showcased the official designs for both characters via a social media post. Link’s design features his iconic green tunic, minus the classic hat. He also has blonde hair, which separates him from previous designs in the franchise. Zelda has her blue outfit from Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, as well as her brown-haired look from Twilight Princess. Wes Ball directs the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. In the past, Ball directed The Maze Runner franchise and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Lastly, according to new reports from Video Games Chronicle and credible leaker Natethehate, a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will release in 2026.
