Square Enix has announced that a new version of the original Final Fantasy VII is coming to PC via Steam with an “improved gameplay experience.” Players who already own Final Fantasy VII on Steam will receive access to the new version for free.

The old version of Final Fantasy VII will remain accessible to existing owners under the title Final Fantasy VII – 2013 Edition. 2013 Edition will no longer be available for purchase after the new version releases, and save data from the old version will not be compatible. More details about the new version will be revealed at a later date.

Meanwhile, Square Enix is actively developing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the third part of the FFVII Remake trilogy for Nintendo Switch 2, according to Nintendo’s interview with director Naoki Hamaguchi. Hamaguchi notes that the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and FFVII Remake Part 3 will keep the gameplay experience “pretty much” the same as the other versions.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is available now for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game includes the Episode INTERmission DLC featuring Yuffie Kisaragi and “Streamlined Progression.” Streamlined Progression is an optional feature that grants access to unlimited MP and HP, unlimited limit and ATB gauge during battles, 9,999 damage, easier weapon ability acquisition, and more.
