SEGA and Rovio has announced that 32-player battle royale game Sonic Rumble is collaborating with the iconic Godzilla franchise in a new limited-time event starting December 22. There will be various challenges and specially themed rewards centering around the iconic kaiju series.

Sonic Rumble players will be available to participate in the new Godzilla Survival stage, where they must survive Godzilla’s rampage on up to three boats in the middle of the ocean while avoiding a Heat Ray attack and the lurking Shockirus. Moreover, the free and premium pass will offer unlockable legendary monsters, and the RSR ship will feature Mechagodzilla and Destoroyah with special skills.

The Sonic Rumble development team is committed to making major player-driven improvements to the game, too. These improvements include making items like skins and Red Star Rings easier to obtain, making the shop and in-game content more accessible, and revising the game interface and tutorial to bring more clarity on game functions and correct the pay-to-win misconception (players believing item purchases are necessary to win matches).

TOHO recently announced that the sequel to Godzilla Minus One will be titled Godzilla Minus Zero. Takashi Yamazaki will return to direct the sequel, with TOHO producing it. Shirogumi will be in charge of the VFX. The logo for Godzilla Minus Zero depicts a different variation of the “G” in the key art, with many speculating that it is depicting a woman praying, or that it could be alluding to the beloved monster Hedorah.

Sonic Rumble is available now for Android via Google Play, iOS via App Store, and PC via Steam worldwide. More than 15 million players have already tried out Sonic Rumble since launch.
