TOHO has officially announced that the sequel to Godzilla Minus One will be titled Godzilla Minus Zero. The company has also released the first teaser and logo for the upcoming movie.
Takashi Yamazaki will return to direct the sequel, with TOHO producing it. Shirogumi will be in charge of the VFX. The logo for Godzilla Minus Zero depicts a different variation of the “G” in the key art, with many speculating that it is depicting a woman praying, or that it could be alluding to the beloved monster Hedorah. An article from The Hollywood Reporter reports that “the new film is being positioned not just as a sequel but as a statement piece.” TOHO is targeting a late 2026 release date for the film and will ramp up production in New Zealand and Norway. The company will reveal more details about the cast and story at a later date.
Godzilla Minus One is available now for streaming on Netflix. The black and white version, Godzilla Minus Color, is also accessible on the service. Additionally, a sequel to the equally beloved Shin Godzilla is in development. Earlier this year, GKIDS re-released the movie in theaters. The official website of the film describes Shin Godzilla as follows:
Something has surfaced in Tokyo Bay. As the Prime Minister of Japan pleads with the public to remain calm, a horrific creature of tremendous size makes landfall in the city, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Then it evolves. The government assembles a motley task force to combat the monster when an envoy from the US Department of State delivers a folder of classified documents. On its cover is written: “GODZILLA.”
