PlayStation has announced that a new system update beta for PlayStation 5 will offer simultaneous DualSense controller pairing across four devices. A new power saving mode for the console is also in development.

Rather than needing to continuously disconnect and reconnect the DualSense or DualSense Edge controller in order to use it on multiple devices, the new update will streamline the process. You can now register up to four devices at the same time. This will allow you to seamlessly switch between PC, Mac, mobile devices, or PlayStation 5.

According to the PlayStation Blog post, the process for switching devices is as follows:

  1. Turn on the device you want to connect to.
  2. Press and hold one of the action buttons and the PS button for about 3 seconds. When the light bar and player indicator blink, release both buttons. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.

PlayStation also describes the upcoming power saving update as follows:

“With this update, you may notice a new option in your settings menu called Power Saver. While this feature won’t be available during the beta phase, once it officially launches, supported PS5 games will scale back performance and will allow your PS5 to reduce its power consumption when the feature is enabled optionally by gamers. If not enabled, or if games do not support the feature, the performance will not be scaled back and power consumption will not be reduced.”

Additionally, while Power Saver mode is active, VR mode will be inaccessible. The mode will also limit certain game features. PlayStation will reveal more details about which features and the release date of the upcoming update at a later date.
