In the latest State of Play, PlayStation and Sucker Punch has revealed new details about the gameplay and special modes of Ghost of Yōtei. The game will release on PlayStation 5 on October 2.
The State of Play reveals that three new special modes will be available in Ghost of Yōtei. One of these modes is Kurosawa mode, based on director Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo) which returns from Ghost of Tsushima. This adds a black and white filter, an audio filter, film grain, and increased wind.
There are two new modes as well, the first of which being Miike mode, based on director Takashi Miike (13 Assassins). This adds a closer camera and more blood and mud. Lastly, there’s Watanabe mode, based on Shinichirō Watanabe, the director of anime such as Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and Lazarus. Much like Samurai Champloo, the mode adds a lo-fi soundtrack which plays during exploration and combat.
The State of Play also features a new look at the new gameplay adjustments in Yōtei. The sequel of Ghost of Tsushima features new weapons including a rifle, dual katanas, kusarigama, odachi, spear, and a classic katana. While the previous game featured different combat stances meant to counter different weapons, the stances have now been replaced with the alternate weapons. There are also new options for players at night, a massive cast of characters, and exciting exploration opportunities.
