WEBTOON Entertainment announced Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga is coming to the WEBTOON digital platform in full color. The Fullmetal Alchemist manga will be available on WEBTOON starting May 7, and it will be reformatted for the platform’s vertical scroll format.
Fullmetal Alchemist was first serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine from 2001 to 2010. The series received two anime adaptations: Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. What’s more, Square Enix launched the free-to-play RPG Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile on August 4, 2022 in Japan, and it was shut down on March 29, 2024.
Here’s an overview of the manga, via WEBTOON:
Fullmetal Alchemist follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, young genius alchemists who attempt to bring their dead mother back to life through the forbidden act of human transmutation. However, the price is too high — the transmutation fails, and Edward loses both his leg and his brother in the process. To save him, Edward sacrifices his arm to transmute his brother’s soul, attaching it to a suit of armor. In the aftermath, the brothers set out on a long journey to reclaim their bodies.
“Fullmetal Alchemist is the kind of story that stays with you for life—whether you’ve read the original manga, watched the anime, or found it through its passionate global fandom,” said WEBTOON Entertainment head of global Yongsoo Kim in a press release. “Bringing this iconic series to WEBTOON audiences gives both longtime fans and first-timers a new way to enjoy this story. It’s emotional, it’s intense, and now it’s easier than ever to fall in love with it all over again.”
