Square Enix has announced that they will be closing their Square Enix Café Tokyo on March 31. The closure comes eight years after Square Enix initially opened the café inside the Yodobashi Camera store in Akihabara in October 2016.
The café features time-limited collaborative menus and drinks with different Square Enixproperties, as well as a shop with merchandise. The current collaboration is with the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake game, which lasts until January 31. The café will reveal its final collaboration next week.
Recently, Square Enix provided a sales update for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, confirming that the turn-based RPG surpassed 2 million copies sold worldwide. These sales include worldwide shipments and digital downloads across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows.
Previously, Famitsu sales revealed that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake sold 821,770 physical copies in Japan during launch week. That successful launch made Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake the current best-selling game of the year in Japan. A majority of copies were sold on Nintendo Switch, with 641,195 copies. 180,575 copies were sold on PlayStation 5. Digital sales were not disclosed yet at that time.
ARTDINK and Team Asano are currently leading development of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, with series creator Yuji Horii as supervisor. These remakes will bring the entire Erdrick trilogy to the modern era, while vastly upgrading its visuals in a way that stays true to the classic RPGs.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is out now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Lastly, the Square Enix Café Tokyo will be closing on March 31.
