Pokémon Gets New Wartortle Anime Short by Shingo Yamashita, Studio Chromato and Studio Colorido

The Pokémon Company has released a new 13-minute “POKÉTOON” anime short titled “Kameil to Natsu no Tsuzuku (Wartortle and the Ongoing Summer).” The Pokémon Wartortle anime short was directed by Shingo Yamashita, who previously directed the Cosmic Princess Kaguya anime film for Netflix.

The anime short was produced by Studio Chromato and Studio Colorido. Aya Satsuki, who previously worked on the Solo Camping for Two anime, wrote the short’s script. Riiki Miura is the chief animation director and character designer, and Kyosuke Kagawa is the music composer. 

The cast of the anime short includes:

  • Sayaka Senbongi as Rikuto
  • Tasuku Hatanaka as Gaku
  • Akiko Hiramatsu as Shuri
  • Kana Hanazawa as Wartortle
  • Natsumi Haruse as Leafeon
  • Michiyo Murase as Bellsprout

The story of Wartortle and the Ongoing Summer follows a young boy named Rikuto, who visits his grandmother on an island at the end of summer. On the island, Rikuto meets and becomes friends with a Wartortle.

The Pokémon Company previously released the Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery short anime on February 27, 2025 during Pokémon Day. This short is now streaming in English on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. CoMix Wave Films, the studio responsible for producing Makoto Shinkai’s films, produced the Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery anime.
