The Nintendo Switch 2 hardware reveal is reportedly happening this week, with rumors and claims pointing toward an announcement on January 16, according to the Nate the Hate podcast.
According to the podcast, the reveal trailer planned by Nintendo will focus on the Switch 2 hardware itself. A software showcase, similar to a Nintendo Direct, is reportedly planned for late February or early March. VGC corroborated Nintendo’s two-part reveal plan for Nintendo Switch 2, and Eurogamer corroborated the January 16 reveal date. Final Weapon also heard similar plans were taking shape this week from its sources.
Moreover, Nate the Hate speculates that the new console will release in May or June 2025, which VGC states also matches up with what the outlet has heard from sources familiar with the matter. New Mario Kart and 3D Mario titles are reportedly prepared for launch and holiday 2025, respectively.
“I can share with you that Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week… I have been told Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16… just a few days from now,” Nate the Hate said.
“I’ve heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.”
At the time of this writing, Nintendo has only confirmed that a Nintendo Switch successor is in the works, and a reveal is coming within the fiscal year ending in March 2025. The console will be backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch games and support Nintendo Switch Online.
