In celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, Famitsu held a poll recently to see what its readers believe are the best 30 PlayStation games of all time. Final Fantasy VII claimed the top spot, but Xenogears took #3. Released in 1998, Xenogears was at one point a concept for Final Fantasy VII but then spun off into its own project under the direction of Tetsuya Takahashi. The game is one of the most beloved PlayStation titles, with a massive following still to this day.
After the release of Xenogears, Takahashi left Square to establish Monolith Soft, creating Xenosaga and then, eventually, Xenoblade Chronicles. While Xenogears ranks as the third-best PlayStation title ever, it is not playable on any modern console today. We’ve added the complete list below, which includes many popular Square Enix titles like Final Fantasy VII, Dragon Quest VII, and more.
