Sony Interactive Entertainment released a “Thank You” video to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation console. In addition, a new PlayStation 5 system update celebrates the 30th anniversary by featuring start-up animations from the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4.

Firstly, the PlayStation 30th anniversary Thank You video celebrates the many games and franchises that are synonymous with the brand. These games include Ape Escape, Resistance, Final Fantasy VII, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Gran Turismo 7, and so much more.

A new PS5 update is available with “limited-time” start-up animations, themes, and audio from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Check your PS5 console’s settings menu to see what’s new with the update.

Moreover, Sony Interactive Entertainment has opened a new PlayStation history website to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the brand, which began with the release of the original PlayStation in December 1994. The website also revealed that the PlayStation 2 sold a total of 160 million units.

Sony is reportedly working on a portable PS5 console that will rival Microsoft’s new Xbox gaming handheld and Nintendo Switch and its successor, according to a recent report by Bloomberg. The new portable PS5 is years away from launch, and Sony may decide against releasing it, however.

Sony is also in talks to buy the massive Japanese entertainment conglomerate, Kadokawa. Kadokawa is known for several anime franchises such as Bungo Stray Dogs, The Rising of the Shield Hero, Date A Live, and countless others. Additionally, they also own video game companies, namely Armored Core and Elden Ring developer From Software.
