    Kadokawa Acquires Oshi no Ko Anime Studio Doga Kobo

    A Kadokawa Group subsidiary.

    Kadokawa announced the acquisition of Doga Kobo, the animation studio behind the Oshi no Ko and New Game! anime adaptations. Doga Kobo will be a subsidiary of the Kadokawa Group conglomerate.

    Doga Kobo opened in July 1973, and the studio has 62 employees as of June 2024. Besides Oshi no Ko, one of the company’s most recent works includes the Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night anime, which premiered on April 6 this year.

    Oshi no Ko Season 2 premiered on July 3 as an adaptation of the manga’s “Tokyo Blade” stage play. A live-action movie, an Amazon Prime series, and a slew of new merchandise, including a new Ai Hoshino Nendoroid, are also on the way. 

    New chapters of Mengo Yokoyari and Aka Akasaka’s Oshi no Ko manga series typically release on Thursdays at 12:00 a.m. JST / Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Fans may read new manga chapters on Manga Plus in English. In Japan, new chapters are available in Young Jump and other manga services.
