Tencent has acquired a majority stake of the shares for Kuro Games, the developers behind Wuthering Waves. Specifically, they acquired 37% of the shares for the company, and now own a 51% stake. That said, Tencent has ensured that Kuro Games will remain independent, in spite of the acquisition. This is similar to Tencent’s approach to Riot Games.
Tencent’s next game, Light of Motiram, will release in 2025. It’s a new open-world survival crafting game, which bears a striking resemblance to the Horizon franchise. It will be available for the PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android. Wuthering Waves, on the other hand, first launched on May 22, 2024 for Android, iOS, and PC via Windows and Epic Games Store, and the PS5 version follows up on January 2, 2025.
Over 30 million players have downloaded the game thus far. To celebrate 30 million downloads, Kuro Games distributed Lustrous Tide x10 and Crystal Solvent x5 to all Wuthering Waves players for free.
