It doesn’t feel real to me that we’re already almost halfway through November. It feels like Wuthering Waves Version 1.3 came out maybe three weeks ago. However, time doesn’t stop for us or the team at Kuro Games because we are now at the fourth update, Wuthering Waves Version 1.4.
Final Weapon recently had the opportunity to try out an early access version of Wuthering Waves Version 1.4, which is available right now. So let us open the door, and see what can players can expect in this new update.
Note: This article contains images taken from a beta build of the game, and may not reflect the final version.
Wuthering Waves‘ Version 1.4 Main Event: Diving Into the Somnium
In this new update, the main event, titled Depths of Illusive Realm, involves the Somnoire, originally debuted on release as a permanent end-game mode that players could do every week to obtain rewards. You’ll be entering the dreams of Resonators and help the mysterious white cat regain control of the dream world, as the nightmares start to leak into the real world.
There are six dreams in total to go through, and every one of them provides a glance into a character’s thoughts, and you must save them from sinking deep into the negative thoughts due to how the nightmares are starting to flood into the real world. Each stage features a new feature in combat called the Dream Link, where the more you dodge or deal damage to the enemies inside, the Dream Link gauge fills, allowing you to unleash a powerful attack to all enemies and briefly enter a state where you can continuously unleash your Resonator’s attacks.
For the Dreamscape Odyssey stages, you won’t have to use your team at all, because during all of them, a trial Resonator, which is usually a duo composed of the one whose dream you’re entering plus the Rover, is assigned for you. I liked some of the dreams, especially Zhezhi’s, but I must say I was slightly disappointed that you don’t get to experience any of the male Resonators’ dreams. I would’ve loved to see what kind of ways we can dive deep into the dreams of characters such as Jiyan and Xiangli Yao.
The event is also composed of two other parts: namely the Rift Runner and Nightmare Revisit sections. The former has doors scattered across the overworld that you must clear, and the latter is basically the combat sections that you did in the Dreamscape Odyssey, though you’re limited to just the resonators whose dreams you’ve encountered, which is again, a bummer, but it makes sense due to how the Dream Link mechanic works.
New Projection Feature
Clearing the Depths of Illusive Realm event will allow you to obtain a new Projection for your Resonator weapons, which brings me to another new feature of Version 1.4, which is the Projection system. These Projections allow a weapon to look like something entirely different while still retaining the same stats. Emphasis on “looks”.
It appears that Kuro Games has plans to continuously add new skins for players to obtain, adding to the customization aspect of Wuthering Waves. It does make me wonder if this means it won’t be long until we start to see alternative clothing options for the main characters in the shop. The possibilities are endless.
This Rose Has More Thorns Than Usual
The main star of the show of Version 1.4 is the Bloom Bearer of the Black Shores, Camellya. She is a Havoc-element Resonator who can deal massive damage to a large group of enemies while in Blossom Mode. However, while Camellya is suspended by the vines, moving her becomes a bit more complicated until you press the button to make her land and go back to her regular attack mode.
I’m going to be brutally honest: I was never into Camellya’s personality, and this is something from even back when she was introduced in the main story. And even after playing through her Companion Quest, I just ended not liking her even harder. The music and lore are nice, but I just don’t like how clingy and obsessive she gets with the Rover, and I just find it hard to just feel anything for her.
In combat, even after I did some testing, her kit doesn’t seem to bring much to the table. Even her gacha animation just gave me the creeps. However, the fact we’re getting Camellya as a playable character makes me wish for another male Resonator to be added, since our last one was Xiangli Yao. Camellya isn’t a character I would personally recommend, but she will definitely appeal to many fans out there.
Lumi, the new 4-Star Resonator
I had a lot of fun playing with the new 4-star Resonator, Lumi. In some of her attacks, she calls upon her mouse-like friend Squeakie, who can shoot projectiles to the enemy from a distance while she runs at a faster speed to dodge the attacks. Furthermore, her attacks mostly consist of bouncing with Squeakie, and even her Ultimate animation is adorable.
Lumi will be in the second phase of banners for Version 1.4, alongside a rerun for both Yinlin and Xiangli Yao. Given that her element is Electric, it makes sense to pair her with those Resonators, though I would need to do further experimentation since this was a beta version.
Version 1.4’s Quality of Life Improvements
It isn’t a true version update without quality of life improvements, and there are plenty of them in Version 1.4. For starters, you’re now able to Fast Travel directly to the location of any Tacet Suppression or Boss challenge via the Map menu. This means you no longer need to try and figure out the nearest waypoint to the boss.
Moreover, upon completing a Forgery, Simulation, or Tacet Suppression challenge, you now have the option to spend spend double the Waveplates to get twice as many rewards. This makes grinding for the materials much quicker, as you’ll now only need to do the challenge twice to spend all of your Waveplates for the day, instead of four times.
Version 1.4’s Closing Thoughts
Compared to the previous version update, Wuthering Waves Version 1.4 has a lot less content than it seems at first, being more of an appetizer. However, the developers have instead focused on bringing several quality of life improvements, which are very welcome, especially with the ability to quickly grind for materials by doubling your rewards.
The new event is also full of juicy lore tidbits about the Somnium for players to enjoy, so I thoroughly recommend going through it. While Camellya is definitely not my type of character, and I’ll still be waiting patiently for our next male character, Version 1.4 is looking to be a nice update for all players to enjoy.
