TMS Entertainment has announced that a new 2D-animated Lupin the IIIrd anime film will premiere in theaters in 2025. Takeshi Koike will direct the film, which is currently set to release in Japanese theaters. It is unknown if it will release in the West. The Lupin the IIIrd franchise originally began in 1965 with the release of the first manga. The fictional French “gentleman thief,” Arsène Lupin, inspired the creation of the series. Over the years, several anime and film adaptations have released, with the most recent movie premiering in 2019. The last 2D-animated film in the franchise was Lupin III: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon in 1985.
