To celebrate the anniversary of the original Xbox, 8BitDo unveiled the new Xbox Edition Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard and Retro R8 Mouse. Both of these new peripherals are officially licensed and designed with Xbox, taking inspiration from the Transparent Green Edition of the original Xbox console.
Firstly, the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition features customizable RGB backlighting with eight light modes, an integrated Xbox button with Game Bar support, and programmable Super Buttons. The tenkeyless design makes it somewhat compact while retaining function shortcut keys and FN Lock. It’s compatible with Windows and Android only, however.
On top of the aforementioned features, the new mechanical keyboard included Kailh Jellyfish X switches with a hot-swappable PCB and n-key rollover. The double-layered ABS keycaps with matte UV coating help ensure long-term durability. There’s also fast-mapping for the Super Buttons without the need for software.
The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse – Xbox Edition is expertly crafted as well, with the same Transparent Green Edition aesthetic. The mouse includes three connection modes: Bluetooth, 2.4G wireless, and wired USB-C. Thanks to the Kailh Sword GM X Micro Switches, the new mouse is engineered to last up to 100 million clicks. Similarly to the keyboard, there are multiple customizable control options, including programmable buttons, left/right-hand mode switching, DPI adjustment with 6 levels, and polling rate adjustment via Ultimate Software.
The new Xbox Edition Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard and Retro R8 Mouse will ship on January 16, 2025 for $119.99 and $59.99 respectively. Pre-orders are available now at 8BitDo.
