According to Reuters, Sony is in talks to buy the massive publishing company, Kadokawa. Kadokawa is known for several anime franchises such as Bungo Stray Dogs, The Rising of the Shield Hero, Date A Live, and countless others. Additionally, they also own video game companies, namely From Software.
From Software has worked on beloved titles such as Game of the Year award winners Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. They’ve also worked on Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and the Armored Core franchise. Reportedly, Sony already has a 2% stake in Kadokawa and a stake in From Software. Only time will tell if this deal will go any further than the negotiation stage.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is From Software’s latest project. Recently, it was nominated for Game of the Year, despite being an expansion added to Elden Ring. The Steam page describes the DLC as follows:
Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion to ELDEN RING, the 2022 Game of the Year.
Dark and intense, Shadow of the Erdtree has players continue their quest with the freedom to explore and experience the adventure at their own pace.
The Realm of Shadow has been kept apart from the Lands Between since its creation. Now, in pursuit of Miquella, the Tarnished are among the first souls to set foot here in unknown ages. Traverse new open field areas to reach dense new legacy dungeons full of hazards and undiscovered mysteries.
Dangers both great and small will provide a formidable challenge for any player in the Realm of Shadow. New enemies roam the open areas and horrifying new monsters lurk in caverns and hollows, waiting to ambush the unaware. Anyone capable of surviving these intense battles will know the rush of true victory.
