Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida is still in talks to bring the popular RPG to Nintendo consoles, likely referring to the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor. The development team’s goal is to bring Final Fantasy XIV to as many platforms as possible, according to Yoshida’s interview at Game Reactor.
Yoshida and Square Enix have been in talks with Nintendo about a potential release of Final Fantasy XIV on its platform for years. However, Yoshida notes that Square Enix is making progress toward that goal, and discussions are still ongoing. He hopes that everyone can look forward to news, likely an announcement, when the time is right.
“I’m sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo’s consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy XIV is to release our game on as many devices as possible, ” Yoshida told Game Reactor.
Yoshida continued, “So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come.”
A new mobile game spin-off, Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World, was recently approved in China. The game is reportedly developed by Lightspeed Studios at Tencent and Square Enix, acting as a standalone MMORPG. This title will be separate from the current Final Fantasy XIV.
Lastly, Final Fantasy XIV and the Dawntrail expansion are available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Windows and Steam.
