In a new report from Niko Partners, it has been revealed that China has approved a new mobile game titled Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World. According to Daniel Ahmad, the title is developed by Lightspeed Studios at Tencent and Square Enix, acting as a standalone MMORPG. This title will be separate from the current Final Fantasy XIV Online.
Square Enix initially applied for the trademark in China on July 10. The game is likely close to being revealed, especially considering it has been approved for release. At this time, it is unclear if Square Enix will bring the game to other countries outside of China. There are no trademarks or ratings that suggest this. It’s also unclear what Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World will entail. As a mobile game, it will likely be free-to-play, with a few monetization options enabled.
As for Final Fantasy XIV, the recent Dawntrail expansion was released in early July. This is the 6th major expansion for Final Fantasy XIV. An overview of the expansion can be found below via Steam:
