Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Launches Shangri-La Frontier Collab

Sunraku and his friends enter the world of New Genesis.

SEGA launched a collaboration between free-to-play online action RPG Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and the Shangri-La Frontier anime. Players may earn new cosmetics by pulling from the collaborative AC Scratch Ticket.

In AC Scratch Ticket: Shangri-La Frontier Style, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis players may obtain avatar items for Sunraku, Psyger-0, Arthur Pencilgon, and OiKatzo. The Scratch Ticket also includes Paint-type Portable Holograms inspired by the clan marks, voice-enabled chat stamps with quotes from Shangri-La Frontier, and new Weapon Camos resembling weapons used by Sunraku and his friends. Moreover, a Mag Form of Emul is available as a Scratch Count Bonus.

Katarina began the Shangri-La Frontier web novel series on the “Let’s Be Novelists” website in May 2017. Three years later, the manga adaptation by Ryosuke Fuji began in Weekly Shonen Magazine in July 2020. The anime premiered on October 1, 2023 as a two-cour series, with 13 episodes in the first cour and 12 episodes in the second cour.

The second season of Shangri-La Frontier will premiere on October 13 this year, nearly one year after the anime first began. Fans will be able to watch the anime on Crunchyroll. Here’s an overview of the anime, via Crunchyroll:

Rakuro Hizutome only cares about one thing: beating crappy VR games. He devotes his entire life to these buggy games and could clear them all in his sleep. One day, he decides to challenge himself and play a popular god-tier game called Shangri-La Frontier. But he quickly learns just how difficult it is. Will his expert skills be enough to uncover its hidden secrets?

Lastly, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store, Windows, and Steam.
