Meta announced that the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for Meta Quest 2 has been put on hold indefinitely. According to Meta, the company will focus on other projects.
Meta made its announcement for the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in the comments section of its Skydance’s Behemoth pre-order trailer on YouTube. Meta plans to work with Rockstar Games in the future, however. As of now, it’s unclear whether the game’s VR version will ever release. Meta never released screenshots or gameplay of the VR version, either.
“GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects,” Meta said. “We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”
Meta and Rockstar Games first announced the VR version of GTA: San Andreas at the Facebook Connect event in October 2021. According to Meta, the game would deliver a “new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds.” It’s a project that Meta claimed was in the works for many years.
GTA: San Andreas is currently available now in the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. In Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, players may experience remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, developed by Grove Street Games.
