In a recent interview with Variety, Todd Howard hinted that Bethesda is planning several new Fallout games for a future release. The announcement comes in the wake of the recent success of the Amazon Prime Fallout series.
Fallout is one of Bethesda’s most prolific franchises. The most recent game in the series was Fallout 76, a controversial MMO-styled first-person shooter. Recently, Bethesda released the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime. The series’ success affected the franchise drastically, jumping up the player rate for most of the games in the series, including Fallout 4, whose sales increased by 7,500%. Recently, Bethesda released the next-gen update for Fallout 4.
Bethesda Confirms Plans for New Fallout Games in the Wake of TV Show’s Success
Variety recently published an interview with one of Bethesda’s biggest (and most infamous) directors, Todd Howard. In the interview, Howard revealed that Fallout 76‘s player base has reached 20 million players as a result of the success of the Fallout TV series. According to Howard, because of the series, “Depending on the Fallout game, you’re looking at a 4-6x increase in daily players, which is beyond anything I’ve ever seen in my 30 years of doing this.”
After briefly discussing their plans for Season 2 of the series, Howard also stated this: “The TV show, I feel like it took us 15 years from when I first started talking about it — but it was five years since Jonah and I first talked. And games take a good five-ish years. So we’re in plans for future games in this series, and nothing to talk about right now, but we’re always planning.”
This could likely include the previously leaked Fallout 3 remaster. Bethesda will likely reveal more details about the franchise’s future in the coming months. Lastly, the Fallout TV series is available now on Prime Video.
