PS5 sales reached a total of 40 million units sold in July 2023, just a few years removed from logistical challenges during the console’s launch and the COVID-19 pandemic. Six months later, former SIE CEO Jim Ryan confirmed the console sold over 50 million units. Ryan also confirmed that more stock for the PS5 was available at retail during the holiday season.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 has shipped 59.3 million units after four years. The amount is an increase of 4.5 million units since the last recorded amount of PlayStation 5 shipments. This is down 1.8 million from the same period the previous fiscal year. However, PlayStation 5 shipped 20.8 million units during the entire fiscal year, which is up 1.7 million units from the previous year.

At the time of writing Sony’s next major game is currently unknown. That said, it could end up being Insomniac Games’ upcoming game, Wolverine. Their last major title was Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2. The game’s launch trailer describes the game as follows:

Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise for the PS5 console. Nine months after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we find Miles still enlisting Peter’s help, but when the mysterious symbiote appears, Peter and Miles’ relationships are put to the test.

Peter begins to change as he gains symbiote powers, and Miles, Mary Jane, Harry, and the rest of the friend group must help Peter while also facing the impending threats from a cast of new villains like Kraven, Lizard, Sandman, and Venom!

Lastly, the PlayStation 5, alongside many beloved games like Spider-Man 2, God of War: Ragnarok, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is available now.
