Helldivers 2 Will No Longer Require Steam and PlayStation Network Account Linking

Sony hears you loud and clear

PlayStation has announced that PC Helldivers 2 players will no longer require a PlayStation Network account to play. This was disclosed on PlayStation’s official X/Twitter account.

Helldivers 2 planned a major update on May 6 that concerned players. They intended to require PC players to link their Steam accounts to PlayStation in order to play the game. This caused lots of frustration among players, as PlayStation Network is only available in a few countries. As a result, PlayStation took much time to think before making the decision.

PlayStation tells fans that they are still learning what is best for PC players at the moment. Future plans for the game are currently in development, so PlayStation asks for continued feedback.

The Steam page describes Helldivers 2 as follows:

HELLDIVERS™ 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.
