Square Enix’s SaGa franchise localization director Neil Broadley has passed away after a long battle with stage 4 color cancer. The news was shared by Neil Broadley’s X (formerly Twitter) account via a work colleague, where messages from Neil and his partner Shige were also released.
Broadley was integral to the release of recent SaGa titles and the franchise’s resurgence in the west. The most recent entry in the series, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, recently reached 1 million copies sold—the first series to reach the milestone since SaGa Frontier in 1997.
You can learn about how much the SaGa franchise meant to Neil Broadley in the video below:
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is available now for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Microsoft Store and Steam. The Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven demo is available in the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam marketplace, allowing players to try the game for free. Final Weapon reviewed Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven and gave it a 4.5/5 score, noting that the game is “a remake done with the utmost respect to the original, featuring modern accommodations that increase the ease of play while not diminishing the experience. Battles are strategic and fast-paced with many variables to consider from formations to character customization.”
Fans can also look forward to Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, a full remake of Romancing SaGa 3 launching on February 16, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
