Toys for Bob Goes Indie, Crash Team Rumble Gets Final Update

A bright spot in a week filled of layoffs.

Toys for Bob has announced that they have split off from Microsoft and Activision in order to become an Indie company. They also announced that their recently released GAAS Crash Team Rumble will get its last content update on March 4.

Toys for Bob’s recent announcement is likely in part due to all of the recent layoffs over the last few weeks and months. Over the last few months, several major companies have laid off hundreds, if not thousands, of workers from across their entire gaming division. Examples include Microsoft, Bungie, Embracer Group, Behaviour Interactive, Riot Games, Sega, Sony, EA, and more. The recent layoffs will likely encourage more companies to take Toys for Bob’s approach and go fully independent.

Crash Team Rumble Last Content Update

In a new blog post, Toys for Bob announced that they will be breaking off from Microsoft and Activision to become an indie studio. While this means they will no longer have access to IP such as Crash and Spyro, it does allow them to have more control over their gaming library.

Previously, the developers had been reduced to working on the Call of Duty franchise rather than the games that really put them on the map, such as 2020’s Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Now, they will be able to make the type of games they want to make. According to the post, they are also considering a new partnership with Microsoft that differs from the massive company’s previous ownership of the smaller studio. The developers will likely reveal more about their plans in the coming months.

Toys for Bob also announced that their recent GAAS Crash Team Rumble will get its last update on March 4.

“March 4, 2024 will be the final content update for Crash Team Rumble,” Toys for Bob said in an in-game notification. “The core game will still be live and players will have access to a free 500-tier battle pass that includes 104 new items.”

This will include all of the Battlepass content from Seasons 1 through 3, plus all the available event rewards. Additionally, Crash Coin purchases will be turned off, and players can use their existing Crash Coins to purchase tier skips for the Battlepass.

Lastly, Crash Team Rumble is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
