    The Apothecary Diaries Casts Houko Kuwashima for Episode 18

    The official Twitter account for The Apothecary Diaries anime series confirms that Houko Kuwashima will join the voice cast as Fengxian. Fengxian will make her appearance in The Apothecary Diaries episode 18 on Saturday, February 10. 

    The first cour of The Apothecary Diaries ran for 12 episodes and quickly became one of the most popular anime of 2023. In the second cour, Maomao returns to the palace after Jinshi buys her from the Verdigris House. Maomao is all over the place as Jinshi’s assistant, accepting all sorts of assignments with help from Basen, Gaoshun’s son.

    Houko Kuwashima Joins the Cast of The Apothecary Diaries

    Houko Kuwashima plays the role of Fengxian, a former courtesan that’s suffering from an illness in The Apothecary Diaries. She lives in the annex building of the Verdigris House, where Maomao briefly worked at. The Apothecary Diaries episode 18 will delve into Fengxian’s backstory soon on February 10.

    A recent update from The Apothecary Diaries staff confirms that 31 million copies of the novel series are now in circulation. Seven million of those copies were sold from the end of September 2023 to mid-January 2024. Square Enix will release English print editions of The Apothecary Diaries starting May 14, so fans can expect the tally to continue toward 32 million.

    New episodes of The Apothecary Diaries will stream on Saturdays at 10:45 a.m. PDT / 1:45 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. In Japan, episodes air on Sundays at 12:55 a.m. JST. wacci performs the new ending theme song “Ai wa Kusuri” (Love is Medicine) in the second cour of The Apothecary Diaries. Uru performs the new opening theme song “Ambivalent.”
