The Apothecary Diaries episode 17 sees Jinshi go incognito with Maomao, as a new case needs his direct attention. He will need a lot of makeup to go into town without concern or suspicion.
The first cour of The Apothecary Diaries ran for 12 episodes and quickly became one of the most popular anime of 2023. In the second cour, Maomao returns to the palace after Jinshi buys her from the Verdigris House. As Jinshi’s assistant in the outer court, Maomao will continue to take new assignments that sees her meet all sorts of people at the emperor’s palace.
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 17 Release Date and Time
Episode 17 of The Apothecary Diaries premieres on February 3 at 10:45 a.m. PDT / 1:45 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. The new episode is titled “A Jaunt Around Town.” A total of 12 episodes will be released in the second cour, with 7 more to go after the release of episode 17. By the second cour’s finale, 24 episodes would have been released for the first season of The Apothecary Diaries.

What Happened in Episode 16? (Recap)
The Apothecary Diaries episode 16 saw Maomao and Basen investigate the death of a metalworker and his sons’ inheritance. Three sons may be seen in a state of disarray due to the possessions they’ve inherited from their father. However, they are unable to discover the secret technique that their father didn’t have the chance to pass down.
Maomao begins to investigate the metalworker’s room and discovers that the youngest son’s goldfish bowl may be key to unlocking a strange drawer. By placing the goldfish bowl full of water against the window, the sunlight is able to melt ore within a keyhole to unlock the drawer and create a new key. This key is what’s needed to finally discover the true inheritance left behind by the metalworker: valuable materials and the acknowledgement of their talents.
With the bond between the sons repaired, Maomao heads back to the court for the next assignment. Meanwhile, Master Lakan decides to strike up another conversation with Jinshi, as he’s pleased to hear that Maomao was able to solve the case rather quickly. Lakan shows his interest in Maomao once more before leaving once more. At the end of the episode, Jinshi asks Maomao to help with his makeup, leading into episode 17

Maomao prepares Jinshi’s makeup in The Apothecary Diaries episode 17, as the two prepare for a stroll through town. Apparently, the next case must see Jinshi don a disguise of sorts as he acts as a chaperone for Maomao.
