SNK announced a major update for The King of Fighters XV will launch on January 30 featuring the new Advance Strike mechanic. This mechanic adds a new offensive measure to a player’s repertoire.
This past November, Hinako Shijo made her debut as the final Season 2 DLC character for The King of Fighters XV. Support for the game is not stopping in 2024, as The King of Fighters XV is set to the aforementioned update on January 30. The update will likely bring balance adjustments, but the only details that were revealed involve the Advance Strike mechanic.
The King of Fighters XV Major Update – Advance Strike
The new update for The King of Fighters XV will add Advance Strike, which lets players fend off throws and physical blows for more aggressive plays. SNK notes that this is a more aggressive countermeasure than Shatter Strikes, but the new mechanic costs half a power gauge bar to perform. Players will regain the half bar on both hit and block.
On hit, the Advance Strike causes a hard knockdown, allowing the player to dish out more offense. In addition, the move gains a counter hitbox against throws partway through, unlike Shatter Strikes. If a throw lands while the counter is active, the opponent will be sent to the ground, leaving them more prone for follow-up attacks. As a result, Advance Strike brings a whole new dynamic to The King of Fighters XV.
