Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shibuya Incident Finale Explained

    Walking into the Culling Game.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 finale brought incredible revelations in the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident. There’s so much to unpack regarding the Jujutsu Headquarters notice and what’s next for Yuji Itadori. Since the Jujutsu Kaisen Culling Game anime is coming soon, now’s a great time to delve into what really happened at the end of the Shibuya Incident.

Firstly, its worth noting that there will be many story spoilers going forward. It’s recommended to watch both seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shibuya Incident Finale Explained – ‘Geto’ Brings Pure Chaos

It was revealed earlier in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 that Suguru Geto’s body was being inhabited by someone else, and Satoru Gojo paid the price for discovering this truth. Gojo was sealed away in the Prison Realm, and it wouldn’t be until episode 46 when Yuji, Yuki, Panda, and the other remaining jujutsu sorcerers discover Geto’s true identity.

After being implanted with strange memories of Yuji, Choso decides to lend his strength in order to combat Geto and his accomplice Uraume. Choso reveals that the one inhabiting Geto’s body is Kamo Noritoshi, Choso’s “father” and the most disgraced sorcerer in history. Kamo Noritoshi has been alive for the past 150 years, but he claims that he’s been alive far longer than that. With an absorbed Mahito in his body, Kamo uses the Idle Transfiguration technique to awaken two types of new sorcerers across Japan in the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shibuya Incident finale.

Firstly, 1,000 legendary sorcerers have been awakened within civilians that have cursed objects within their bodies. Secondly, he altered the brains of people who had the potential to use Cursed Techniques but didn’t have the ability to use Cursed Energy yet. One of these candidates appears to be Megumi’s step-sister, who was in a curse-induced coma. Additionally, the technique unleashes every Cursed Spirit that Kamo made a pact with, ever.

Kamo did all of this within Geto’s body, since Geto has tremendous potential that Kamo couldn’t have achieved in his own lifetime. By using Idle Transfiguration, Kamo aims to unleash “chaos” that would bring sorcery back to its golden age from the Heian era, as the weak are crushed. This mimic Geto’s original goal while he was still alive in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but it’s so much worse for jujutsu society.

    The Jujutsu Headquarters Notice

Kamo’s activation of Idle Transfiguration ends up blanketing Tokyo with Cursed Spirits and chaos. Innocent people may be seen getting slaughtered left and right in the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident. However, there’s hope when Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto finally return to Shibuya and save a little girl from being eaten by a Cursed Spirit. Afterwards, Yuki may be seen talking to someone as she prepares for an inevitable confrontation with Tengen.

Due to the Shibuya Incident, the higher ups at Jujutsu Headquarters summoned Yuta back to Japan after his stay in Africa. Yuta now reports directly to them, as he seeks vengeance for Toge Inumaki’s torn arms in the wake of Sukuna’s rampage in Shibuya. Yuta vows kill Yuji and make him answer for his (Sukuna’s) crimes. The episode fades to black, and the Jujutsu Headquarters Notice sequence hits like a freight train to end Season 2.

The Jujutsu Headquarters Notice relays the severe consequences in the wake of the Shibuya Incident:

    1. “Suguru Geto” is pronounced alive, which means his death sentence is reinstated.
    2. Satoru Gojo is “deemed” an accomplice in the Shibuya Incident, and he’s expelled from jujutsu society. Moreover, any attempt to unseal Gojo will be treated as a major crime.
    3. Masamichi Yaga, the principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High School, is sentenced to death for “inciting” both Geto and Gojo in the Shibuya Incident.
    4. The death sentence of Yuji Itadori, which was previously suspended after his admission into Tokyo Jujutsu High School, has been reinstated.
    5. Special grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu has been appointed as Yuji’s executioner.

Needless to say, the ramifications of the Shibuya Incident will bring a great change to the world and jujutsu society, with Gojo being out of commission for the time being. For nearly two decades, Gojo was regarded as a great stabilizing force for both sorcerers and Cursed Spirits due to his immense power. Since Gojo is sealed, more Cursed Spirits will be on the move, and Kamo can amass his forces with relative ease. Kamo also has literal thousands of Cursed Spirits and sorcerers that may want to repay their debts by siding with him.

Yaga’s death doesn’t bode well either, as it seems that the higher-ups were quick to dispose of Gojo and his ally. Previously, both Gojo and Yaga shielded Yuji from intervention by Jujutsu Headquarters. With those two out of the picture, HQ will attempt to hunt down Yuji with the backing of its many sorcerers across Japan. Remaining allies like Megumi and Panda will likely have their work cut out for them if they try to side with Yuji. However, Yuki may offer a glimpse of hope as Yuji’s ally, since she’s one of the strongest sorcerers in the world. The two are connected through Todo, who will side with Yuji as well. Choso is going to protect his “brother” without a doubt, too.

The very end of episode 47 sees Yuji walking in a barren Tokyo, with his new outfit and scars. He will most likely battle sorcerers and Cursed Spirits alike in Jujutsu Kaisen Culling Game, which is essentially Season 3. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shibuya Incident was phenomenal to say the least, and Culling Game will likely bring more revelations about the jujutsu world in the near future.
