    EarthBound 30th Anniversary Plans Teased

    Merchandise and events to come.

The official Hobonichi MOTHER Project Twitter account teases various plans for the 30th anniversary of EarthBound, which is also known as Mother 2 in Japan. A new anniversary website has been launched as well.

2024 marks 30 years since Mother 2 launched on August 27, 1994 in Japan for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game came to the west one year later on June 5, 1995 as EarthBound. The iconic RPG was re-released several times in the past two decades, including a release for the SNES Nintendo Switch Online app for subscribers.

    EarthBound 30th Anniversary Plans

A newly launched website celebrates the EarthBound 30th anniversary with a blog post from Hobonichi MOTHER Project. “Various plans” for EarthBound were teased, including new merchandise, a new type of event, a collaboration, and “a measuring stick.” The website also teases “things that were decided” and reveals that will come at a later date. Moreover, Hobonichi MOTHER Project wishes everyone a happy new year with sprites of Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo.

However, it’s worth noting that the blog post does not tease game announcements, as most of the teases appear to be related to merchandise and events. Mother 3 still alludes an official English localization from Nintendo, and it’s unlikely an announcement regarding this title will be made.

Lastly, EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings are available now for Nintendo Switch with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Here’s an overview of the EarthBound games, via Nintendo:

Join Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo in their quest to fulfill an age-old prophecy to stop the wicked Giygas (and maybe catch a Runaway Five concert along the way) in the fan-favorite Super NES classic EarthBound. In addition, travel back to 198X for EarthBound Beginnings, a localized version of the original Famicom Mother game. Both EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings are playable with a Nintendo Switch Online membership!
