Kojima Productions has officially announced that Death Stranding has passed sixteen million players. The announcement comes four years after the game’s release.
During The Game Awards 2023, Kojima Productions announced work on a new game in collaboration with Jordan Peele, titled OD. Last year, they also announced a sequel to Death Stranding, titled DS2. Earlier in the week, they also revealed that Death Stranding will be getting a movie adaptation. The film will be made in collaboration with A24.
Death Stranding Reaches Over 16 Million “Porters”
On the official Kojima Productions Twitter/X account, the company officially announced that Death Stranding has passed 16 million players. The metric includes players who are on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Death Stranding initially released on the PlayStation 4 in 2019. The game was nominated for Game of the Year 2019.
In a recent blog post on the Kojima Productions website, they officially announced that they will be working with film company A24 on a Death Stranding movie adaptation. A24 is known for some of the biggest indie movies over the past few years. Examples include Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, The Lighthouse, Midsommar, and Talk to Me. They’ve developed numerous horror, action, and thriller films and have won several academy awards.
In his official blog post, Hideo Kojima stated that the upcoming film will be more than “just a direct translation of the game.” He says that the intention “is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”
Death Stranding is available now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Kojima Productions will likely reveal more information about DS2 and the upcoming Death Stranding film in the coming months and years.
