Twitch has announced that they will no longer be supporting the Nintendo Switch app. The app will be unavailable to download on November 6. Additionally, existing users will no longer be able to use the app on January 31.
Twitch initially released the app on the Nintendo’s hybrid platform in 2021. The Twitch app is available on the PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S. mobile, browsers, and most Smart TVs. It is currently unknown why the app will no longer be available on the Nintendo Switch.
Twitch No Longer Supported on Nintendo Switch
On Twitch’s official support website, they published the following notice:
“NOTICE: We will be ending support for the Twitch App on Nintendo Switch. Starting November 6th 2023, new users will no longer be able to download the Twitch app in the Nintendo eShop. Existing users will lose access to the Twitch App on Nintendo Switch starting January 31, 2024. For more Twitch content, please visit twitch.tv in your browser, or visit for the Twitch App on other devices.”
Originally, the app allowed Switch users to:
- Sign in to your Twitch account for easy access to all your followed channels.
- Browse live content by category.
- Search to discover new creators.
- Watch VODs and clips from a creator’s channel page.
- Watch Twitch on the big screen with your Nintendo Switch docked, in tabletop mode, or take it on the go in handheld mode.
- While watching your favorite Twitch creator on your Switch, chat using your smartphone using the companion experience described below.
An exact reason for the Nintendo Switch app’s end of support has not been revealed. It is available on every other console and smart device, with the Nintendo Switch being the only exception now. Twitch will likely reveal more details in the coming days. Lastly, the Twitch app will no longer be available on Switch starting November 6. Existing users will lose access to the app on January 31.
